Northern Virginia

While undergoing cancer treatment, she escaped with two of her children by boat from Vietnam in 1981. The boat carrying her nephew and youngest daughter sank. They were returned to Vietnam and the family was reunited seven years later. She is the founder of a Vietnamese literary society and center for the preservation of Vietnamese culture in Northern Virginia.
